A Fall Home Tour {And Simple Ideas to Cozy Up Your Space}

Hey Guys,

How’s your week been going?  I can not believe tomorrow is Friday.  This week  f l e w .  I’ve been been knee deep in a client project all week, and even though the weather has been back to feeling a bit more like summer than fall here in Massachusetts, I’ve been chipping away at adding in some fall touches to our own living room whenever I could as well.

A super sweet blogger friend of mine asked if I’d like to join her fall home tour back in August when we were still in Germany, but I knew there was no way I could meet the timeline once we got back home.  And that proved to be a good decision, because here I am, finished with decorating almost two weeks after I would have needed to have my space complete!  I’m super bummed to have missed out on the fun of that one, but hey, I can still share a few fall decorating ideas with you all now, right?

come on in

Come on in!  Let’s pretend it’s getting chilly outside, and I’ve got an apple pie in the oven 🙂

cozy throw

This is my first time decorating for fall in this new and improved living room.  To see how it looked last Christmas before we redid it, click {here}.  It was so much fun working with more of a blank canvas this season.  I used the same curtains that I had hanging in here last winter, but they feel  t o t a l l y  different against the new wall color.

autumn warmth

I shopped around the house and brought out lots and lots of warm wooden accessories to cozy thing up.

I even added yarn to my glass lamp base.  I mean, yarn?  What could be cozier than yarn? 😉

yarn and paper

If you’re like me, and like to swap out decor, especially textiles, like pillows, seasonally, here’s something I’ve learned over the years.

cozy throw pillows

You’ll actually save lots of money if you buy a nice set of down inserts once, and then replace the covers when you need to.  You can get down filled inserts at Home Goods (but you’ll get covers with them), Pottery Barn, or even IKEA!

fall leaves

I used to get pillows that had the covers attached because they were a bit cheaper, and I thought I was saving money.  And then 3 months later, they looked all scuzzy (yeah, that’s probably not a word, but it’s a great visual!) And then I’d be embarrassed to have people sit next to them on the sofa. Over the years, I’ve realized those pillows barely last a season, and in the end, they end up costing you more because they need to be replaced so often.

Fall Decorating

Case in point.  I bought the beige pillow cover that you see on our chaise, at Pottery Barn FIVE years ago, and it still looks brand new because I can wash it and the material is so durable.

throw pillows

I almost always use pillow covers these days, and I’m telling ya, they last forever!  But anyway, I digress.  Let me show you around a bit more.

painted pumpkins and sage

I added some twine from the hardware store, and a little painted pumpkin to our bookshelves.  And some faux sage, of course.

fall finial

I tucked little bits of faux sage all over the place, actually!  I think pops of green really helps to freshen up all of the warm wood tones and keeps the room from feeling heavy.

watercolor

I love plants no matter what the season, and you’ll always find a mixture of fresh and faux at my house!

autumn branches

hanging pots

That way, if I forget to water one of my real ones – it’s never happened, of course. I’m just being proactive 😉 – or if I just can’t bring myself to spend money on flowers for a few weeks, the house still feels happy and fresh.  By the way, off topic, but aren’t these little hanging pots that I found at Target the cutest?

fall coffee table styling

I think one of autumn’s best attributes is the need for chunky throws and warm beverages. And scarves.  Ok, three.  Make that three of autumn’s best attributes 🙂

Oh wait.  I forgot pumpkin spice lattes! Nevermind.  I’m just going to stop it with the counting…

curl up with a good book

and get back to the tour…

some branches that I cut outside, and apples…  There are always apples in my kitchen. Which also happen to look great at this time of year.

I have two questions…… Where did you get the white throw blanket that’s on your couch and the wooden candle stick that’s on your coffee table? I’ve been looking for one like that forever but can’t find one. I keep thinking I’ll see one at home goods or something, but never do! Thanks and keep up the good work! 🙂
