A Cozy, Collected Living Room for Everyday Gathering

Expanding the Footprint

When I first walked into this home, the framing for a mudroom and laundry room addition had already begun (I’ll be sharing those spaces soon). This family’s biggest hope for their open concept kitchen and living area was simple but meaningful- they wanted a space where everyone could gather comfortably together. The original footprint was a bit smaller, and it didn’t quite give them the room to live the way they envisioned. I had the joy of helping bring the design of this new living area, along with the other spaces I’ll be sharing soon, to life.

Comfort at the Center

The old footprint of this space included a doorway to the foyer, and we opted to close it off to give us more flexibility with the floorplan. Adding in a new sectional was key- it anchors the room while maximizing seating and bringing in the relaxed, cozy vibe the family wanted, with ample space for everyone to spread out. It creates a natural gathering spot for movies, conversations, and time together.

Layered textures, floral drapery, and a grounding rug add dimension, while a mix of woven accents and ceramics keep the look timeless and approachable. The result is a living room that feels comfortable, yet elevated enough to stand the test of time.

Designing the Transition

One of my favorite details from this project is the desk nook. Where the old powder room once stood, there was an opportunity to create a built-in that softens the transition between the kitchen, dining, and living areas. The cabinetry carries a classic feel, while the open shelving adds warmth, depth and space for just the right accessories. Styled with ceramics, greenery, and wood accents, it bridges the adjoining rooms in a way that feels natural and intentional.

A Space That Feels Like Home

This home now tells the story of thoughtful design meeting everyday living. It feels cohesive, welcoming, and truly reflective of the family who lives here- a place to gather, to rest, and to grow together. Comfortable enough for daily life, yet timeless enough to be loved for years to come.
