Hi Friends!
How have you all been? I can’t believe that summer’s already in full swing! Jenna and Aubrey have been out of school for a couple of weeks now, and they’re loving every minute of it. And Ayla is ecstatic to have her two, big sister sidekicks back at home. We’ve been bike riding, swimming at the lake, eating watermelon, slip and sliding in the back yard, and hanging out by the kiddie pool whenever we can. We haven’t made it to the beach yet, but we’re going to get there soon! Nothing beats the sound of ocean waves crashing, kids playing, and toes buried in the sand.
Well, I’m excited because I’m revealing my #BaretoBeautifulProject room makeover with all of you today! It has come such a long way! You may remember the before pictures that I was embarrassed to be sharing with the world a few weeks ago. If not, this is what our master bedroom looked like then… You can see all of the before photos {here}.
BEFORE
Oh my, it was frumpy! We never really gave this room any love, because there always seemed to be more important projects that we needed to get done first. Mom’s and Dad’s needs are usually the last ones met, right? But the time finally came to freshen up a space just for us, and I’m so happy with how it turned out!
YAY!
The room feels so serene and fresh, you guys. It’s a cozy, little, retreat now and not a tired afterthought.
BEFORE
AFTER!
Michael built a window seat behind where the elliptical used to be, and it’s so cozy! Jenna came in this morning and immediately climbed up there, shut the curtains, and started reading her book ?
He also DIYed these closet doors. Don’t they look beautiful? I bought 4, $40 hollow core doors and 8, $15 mirrors at Home Depot, and this is what they became! If you’ve ever looked into buying a custom mirrored door, you know that 4 custom doors for roughly $220 is a steal! Just one door will normally run you anywhere between $250 to $400 per door! I’ll put up a post on how he made them later on this summer, so stay tuned!
Well placed mirrors can add an incredible amount of light to your space. It’s hard to believe this room used to feel like a cave, isn’t it?
I LOVE these knobs that I found at Homegoods. I think they look so pretty on the new doors.
I finished decorating in here late last night, so the girls were very surprised when they woke up this morning. Aubrey was actually the first one to come in, and she immediately said, “Mommy, this is beautiful! It looks exactly like IKEA in here!” I almost died trying to hold in the laughter.
I hope it doesn’t look exactly like IKEA in here, but I thought it was completely adorable that that was the biggest compliment that her little, six year old heart could give me.
I hand painted this love sign years ago. I wasn’t sure whether or not I was going to keep it hanging, but I missed it when I took it down, so it’s staying!
Going into the project, I was most excited about finally putting this window seat in. Before we moved here 8 years ago, I designed the room to have a window seat between the new closets, so finally getting to see my design plan come to fruition in here feels kind of surreal.
I know it’s going to become a favorite spot for morning devotions and coffee on the weekends!
And that’s it, folks! My ‘bare to beautiful’ master bedroom makeover! Don’t forget to stop by Migonis Home to see Jen’s beautiful entryway makeover today! You will love her idea on creating a special place for your kids’ baby clothes!

I am OBSESSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to see it in real life! How do I even pick my favorite part? Okay, I will. The window seat. I love it. Love love love.

Thank you, Jen! Part of me still can’t believe it’s finished and it’s our space! We lived with it being dark and tired looking for so long! I’m so happy to have it all finished up!!!

Oh how gorgeous is this room! I’ve been reading your blog since you started last summer, but this is my first time commenting. You are so talented! I can’t believe how different it looks from before. When you posted the before pictures a few weeks ago, I thought the ceilings would probably look nice, but you had me scared when you said you were making mirror doors! I can’t believe how gorgeous they are! I need you to come show me how to make them. Very beautiful, as usual.
Laura says
Aw, that’s so sweet, Carolyn. Thank you! Michael did all of the handiwork on the doors, and I love how they came out too!! I’m going to share the process on what we used and how he made them the blog later this summer, so check back!
Dorle says
Wow, Laura, I can’t believe how bright your bedroom is looking now! You and Michael are so talented!
Laura says
Thank you, Dorle! It looks so different now, doesn’t it? Can’t wait to see you in a few weeks! 😀

This is so beautiful!!! I can’t believe what a difference all the changes made! Just wondering if you could share where you got the mirrors framing your bed, and also where you bed is from? I love everything about this room!!!
Laura says
Hi Jill! Thank you! I bought the sunburst mirrors at Pottery Barn about 4 years ago. They came in a set of three. The porthole mirror was from Target a few years back, and we bought the bed at Jordan’s Furniture about 6 years ago! I didn’t list them because I’m not sure if they’re sold anymore? Have a great day! 🙂
