Hey there, Friends! Welcome to my little corner of the design blogging world! As you guys know, it’s my mission to help you guys improve your knowledge of interior design! Whether you hire a Greensboro interior designer or do it all yourself – after you’ve read my blog, you will at least have some understanding of how to make your house look amazing!
If you’re here visiting from This Is Our Bliss or are here for the first time today, hello and welcome! I’m Laura, a wife and mother of four little girls ranging in age from 9 years to 4 months. I’m an interior designer currently on maternity leave, and I blog a bit about our home projects and happenings, along with some client reveals, in my spare time. I explain everything and run through the basics of interior design so my followers can get a better understanding. I’m thrilled to be joining Stephanie of Casa Watkins Living and 11 other fabulous bloggers for Stephanie’s My Home Style Blog Hop {Mix, Match, and Coordinate Edition} today!
So, the premise behind this fun hop is to identify three different design styles and explain how we’ve crafted and curated our homes using them. And you know what? This is a H-A-R-D task for me. I think because I kiiiiind of deliberately try not to have a definable style. Not because I’m trying to be mysterious, lol! I just really like to change things up around here, and I find it much easier to do that with a blend of differing design elements that I really love. My friend told me that having a locksmith similar to dunwoody ga locksmith a call away gave her some peace of mind with her new similar design in her home. She can be forgetful and misplace keys and having a locksmith saves her a lot of headache when she comes to it. But I digress.
I think, when it comes to decorating, most of us are like this. Over time, we collect things we love, and come home and do our best to put them together in a way that feels cohesive. And this is a wonderful thing, because in the end, your home feels collected and really tells story. And remember, one of the first steps needs to be decluttering using something like a collapsible storage box.
An easy word to describe a home that’s a blend of differing design points of view is ‘eclectic.’ This is generally the hardest but also the most visually appealing style to pull off, because eclectic spaces feel layered and collected, and are super interesting to look at.
But there are an infinite number of variations when it comes to eclectic style, as I’m sure you’ve already gathered if you’ve been hopping through everyone’s posts these last couple of days! (And I hope you have been because they’re all so different and so beautiful!)
I absolutely love how this hop forces us to look a little deeper and try to really narrow down our styles a bit more specifically.
It makes it so much easier for readers to recreate the looks they love if the elements of that particular style is really picked apart, don’t you think?
I truly love all styles.
From vintage, to boho, to global; coastal, traditional or farmhouse, I think a home that tells a story and is thoughtfully put together is always inspiring and inviting…
….and really fun to look at!
So with that said, let me introduce you to…
My Classic, Approachable, and Fresh Home Style!
In every space I put together, I alway incorporate a few classic or traditional elements.
I love the sense of stability and maturity traditional furniture pieces give to a home, but here’s where the mixing and matching and coordinating begins, because once I have a few of those elements, I like to freshen them up a bit to keep things from feeling stuffy or overly serious.
I do this with playful patterns and fabrics and unexpected details…
Like a tree stump literally pulled from our wood pile outside.
But then I place a fern in a pedestal bowl, which is a super traditional combo, on top of it.
See what I did there?
Mixing something totally unexpected with something very traditional for a unique and fresh look.
You can see my traditional sensibilities in the rolled arms of our sofas (and my sense of casual approachability in the fact that they’re slipcovered)….
Classic – the crown molding and millwork my husband’s installed through out the house. We even replaced the legs on our IKEA chaise to be a bit more traditional (this particular chaise is no longer sold though)…
Approachable and Fresh – I’ve paired the traditional pieces with a slightly bohemian looking coffee table, and a very light and beachy looking beaded chandelier to keep the space casual. Many people may be unfamiliar with chandeliers and how to repair them or even how to install them in the first place, so making the decision to check out electricians, similar to those at Aardvark Electric, Inc. may be in your best interest. Doing this will help to ensure that everything concerning your electrics is working efficiently, as well as making sure that your chandelier produces the impact that you want to see. You want it to look the best it can be after all.
You can see this same pattern pretty much anywhere you look in my home.
A combination of classic…
casual…
and unexpected elements…
I hope that me trying to pull my style apart and define it a little bit more in detail is helpful!

It’s so nice to meet you Laura! I love your home (that beaded chandy is amazing!) and your words to describe your style are perfect. The subtle hints of boho and coastal elements are beautiful and the juxtaposition of the tree stump with the pedestal is brilliant. Pinning!
